When you have a flat, open beach like this, timing is everything. Soft skin tones, dreamy light, that warm golden haze all come down to those last minutes before the sun drops. These Newport Beach family photos was one of those nights.
It was windy, which ended up being a gift. The movement in mom’s linen dress, the way the light caught everything, it felt alive. We timed their sunset session just before the baby’s bedtime. Since their home was right on the shoreline, we had just enough golden minutes to work with. I love shooting this way, moving quickly, and asking for small shifts and micro-movements. Also, I let the light do the heavy lifting while the family just exists together.
What to Wear for Newport Beach Family Photos
They kept it soft with creams and whites that flattered their skin tones beautifully. Mom’s flowy Grecian-style dress brought so much texture and movement. In addition, her gold accessories gave the whole look that elevated, effortless finish. When families come to me for Newport Beach family photos, I always encourage soft neutrals and natural fabrics for exactly this reason. These looks photograph beautifully in coastal light.
As a Newport Beach family photographer, some of my favorite sessions are the ones that feel unhurried, where the only agenda is the light and each other. That’s exactly what this evening felt like with this family.
These are the kinds of images I hope find the people who are looking for something that feels less like a photoshoot and more like a five-minute scene from a film. In this case, the film is your life. On your best day, with the people you love most.
My summer schedule is now open for families in Orange County who are ready to step in front of the camera for something real.
