The Oregon Coast has to be one of my favorite spots to take families for an adventurous photoshoot session. The landscapes and beautiful light brown sandy beaches are hard to beat. Tall rocks that block harsh light make photographing here easy almost any time of day.
During our own family vacation, I recently visited one of my favorite spots away from the crowds at Cannon Beach, Oregon. This gorgeous secluded beach is so beautiful to visit during low tide when we can peek around the rocks and explore the caves and the mini waterfall. Hug Point State Recreation Site is a sweet little cove type of beach that requires a short walk down a staircase. A mysterious looking cave will greet you right when you enter and it’s such a great place to begin a photoshoot.
What Should I Wear
This particular family adventure session was held in early Fall just before sunset. It was a very misty night, so their chosen outfits fit the mood perfectly. I highly recommend beanie caps for the kids to keep their heads warm and cozy and for Mom if you have flyaway hair like me. Play the part with locations like this. Cozy sweaters, and Birkenstocks work really well here. Think boots instead of sneakers for the kids such as Blundstones that also fit the look of an active, but stylish family at the beach. You want your photos to feel timeless so you can frame these later!
The colors along the Oregon Coast are soft, so try not to compete with the neutral tones here. Soft blacks, creams, light taupes, sage greens, and lighter blues work perfectly against the soft brown tones of the beaches. Think coordinating, but not matching. If you’re a Mom reading this, start with your outfit first! I love this Mama’s sweater and how the colors in her top inspired everyone else’s outfits – the play on stripes, a black top for her partner, blue cuffed jeans to pull from the blue stripe in her sweater, and soft browns and creams for baby.
Plan Early
If you’re up for a unique and memorable visit to the Oregon Coast, I’m always willing to travel here. It’s a favorite destination spot for my family, so I never charge a travel fee. Hug Point is just one of my favorite locations for a family adventure session, but there are so many picturesque spots out at the Coast.
Visit me online and get in touch to plan your family photoshoot. I’m happy to talk through the logistics of booking a spot here and I’ll even recommend some spots to stay if you want to turn it in a family vacation.
