How To Pose For Family Photos

Featured

Want to know the trick on how to pose for family photos? It’s the first thing that all my clients fall into when I begin a session, but I’m going to tell you a not so big secret: I don’t do posing. I actually don’t really believe in it because I lean more towards allowing family and people to be themselves.

Family Playdate

When it comes to family photography, the biggest thing to remember during your photoshoot with kids is to simply be playful. Meet them where they’re at. What does mean? Don’t force your kids to smile for the camera. Instead be playful, loving, and attentive to their needs. If they need soothing, then that’s the perfect opportunity to try for a snuggling photo. If they want to move their bodies, it’s time to move with them. If something catches their attention during our session time, it’s time to notice it with them and express your excitement. Remember that the things that seem small and trivial to us are a big deal to them.

Find Your Inner Child

I like to say that the way I approach family photos is geared towards the young at heart. It’s right there on the first page of my website in the upper left hand corner. I carry that encouraging statement with me into every family photoshoot. It’s my reminder to remember to get down on your child’s level to see the world through their eyes. What they see is magic. And I hope you see the same when I deliver your family photos.
