Mountain Adventure Family Session at Mount Si, North Bend, WA | Seattle Family Adventure Photographer

The Storyteller

Adventure sessions for family and couples don’t have to include long hikes. One of my favorite spots for photos is located just 45 minutes outside of Seattle, WA; right near downtown North Bend, WA. Mount Rainier National Park is popular for photos, but the reason I love this location is that it has a wide open field that is easy for kids and everyone to roam, walk and run in and you still get a dramatic mountain backdrop. No permit fee is required here and there’s plenty of space even when it gets busy. You simply park and walk a small path to arrive right at the base of the mountain.

If you hold your family session at golden hour, which is one hour just before sunset, the mountain in the background lights up. As the sun begins to set, it starts to turn into a variety of colors – so gorgeous! This beautiful family had a short drive from the Eastside and came ready to play with their kids – a key component to how successful their family session was. Light neutral colors work best for this particular location. I love that they incorporated whites and creams into their clothing because it allowed them to stand out from the light brown grass. I brought one of my Gigi Pip hats for Mom and her kids to play with – isn’t her little boy so cheeky and cute?

The reason I love wide open spaces for kids is that it allows them to just be themselves. Kids need to move their bodies and little boys sure love to show me how fast their little legs can go! I’m always happy to accommodate them. These candid family moments make for some really heartwarming pictures that I’m always excited to deliver to my clients.

This location is really gorgeous all year ’round, but it’s especially popular in the Fall season. If you’re interested in booking a family or couples session (an amazing spot for a surprise proposal or engagement session!), it’s never too early to reach out and grab a spot on my schedule.

with love,
Maria Alcantara
