Lifestyle Family Session at home in Long Beach

At Home Sessions

I started my business because I never wanted a family to feel like they were performing for a camera. For years, photographers posed, styled, and directed families into perfectly arranged portraits. That work is beautiful for some, but it never excited me. Every lifestyle family session I shoot is built around documentary-style photography that feels like your family on your best day. I show up with my camera, learn what matters most to your family, and let things unfold naturally.

How a lifestyle family session works

Candid family moments like these happen when you focus on each other instead of my camera. If someone always told you to smile and look at the lens, I want to guide you somewhere different. I want to show you what happens when you simply stay present with the people you love most.

This recent at-home lifestyle family session in Long Beach ran almost entirely documentary. This family showed up deeply connected and fully engaged with their sweet toddler. He had just found his footing, having started walking only a month before our session. Watching his parents cheer him on and light up over every little moment reminded me exactly why I love this work. They wanted photos that felt like their own childhood: unposed, spontaneous, and authentic. I wish I had recorded the audio too, because the baby giggles were truly the best.

We moved through three rooms together: their bedroom, living room, and kitchen, then finished outside in the garden and on their front porch. For anyone wondering, this style truly showcases the essence of a family lifestyle session. I always recommend morning sessions for families with toddlers because kids bring their best energy early in the day. I also keep sessions to one hour for this age intentionally, so nobody hits a wall. We took snack breaks when we needed to and finished right on time. This family stayed so naturally engaged with their little one that I put the direction down completely and just followed their lead, which is exactly how I love to work.

If this feels like the kind of session your family needs, I would love to hear from you!
