The desert is a beautiful and unique location for a family photo session. The vast expanse of sand and sky, coupled with the unique rock formations and vegetation, make for a stunning backdrop that is sure to make your family photos stand out.
I recently co-hosted a styled photoshoot weekend in Yucca Valley near Joshua Tree, California in late February with a group of talented photographers. We planned for a weekend of three separate photoshoots that were inspired by the California landscape and lifestyle. It was important to me that we find models for our photoshoots that lived and reflected the relaxed California aesthetic that I grew up knowing and practicing. After looking for families online, I came across this adorable family that seemed perfect for our planned ranch-inspired family photoshoot.

Bringing their own clothing and personal style was also important to me to show that this is a real family with their own unique aesthetic. We rented a gorgeous AirBNB located in Yucca Valley, California that I highly recommend for your next visit to Joshua Tree.
This was such a gorgeous family photoshoot to capture on our last evening in the desert. With minimal prompts, this family really opened up and displayed heartfelt, soulful emotion that can only be achieved by trusting your family photographer. It requires an openness towards me, and also each other as a family. By having the willingness to place this kind of emotion in front of the camera, it allows us as family photographers to completely surround ourselves in the environment and emotion of the moment.
Family photographers are observers and we always want to be able to tell your family story in the most authentic, and beautiful way possible.
This family photoshoot was held in California, and even though I am based in Seattle, my family home is located in Southern California so you will often find me traveling out there. I’m always looking for a reason to travel back to California, so feel free to reach out to me for a memorable family photo session.
