There’s something special about visiting one of your favorite beaches in Dana Point and getting beautiful photos with your son along the shores you walk every year. As a Dana Point family photographer, I love capturing these kinds of moments. This sweet mother and son lifestyle session was short and sweet, but just long enough to capture the mood of these two being absolutely adorable together on an early summer evening at Capistrano Beach.
When you have an active toddler who wants to run and play in the water, sometimes you just need to scoop them up for a mommy-in-arms ride. At this age kids love being playful and everything is a game. As a result, there is a lot of keeping up with their energy. This mother did a wonderful job matching his active personality. She followed his lead and took quick opportunities to cradle him in her arms.
This stretch of beach in Dana Point is so beautiful. The soft sand is perfect for tiny feet and with the waves being blown by winds that night, it made for a gorgeous backdrop that is so unique to Orange County beaches.
What to Wear for a Beach Session
What they wore for their photoshoot really made a difference in the outcome of their photos. A sweet floral dress in a beautiful pattern that complimented the ocean colors perfectly. Her son paired in a simple beach outfit that allowed him to play in the water and move comfortably throughout. This particular stretch of Capistrano Beach is so unique because of the row of houses that line the shore. This mother and son duo visit Orange County every year with their extended family. Because of their family tradition, they took the opportunity to book my two-hour family session. This gave us plenty of time to capture everyone together. The light here is usually bright and open with the ocean backdrop. However, on this night it was cloudy and overcast, which actually worked in our favor.
