Seattle families who return to my calendar year after year are some of my favorite people. Often, they come back because of milestones or special occasions like welcoming a new baby. For this returning client, she wanted to document their time together as a family of three. We didn’t need a full session for this photoshoot because I knew we could achieve her request in half the time. It was a not-so-mini session that perfectly captured their precious moments.
A Mini Location in Seattle
We chose a nearby location with minimal travel time to document their family of three. This year, I’m focusing on capturing family moments in unassuming spots around Seattle that people often overlook. I can always suggest a time with flattering light for everyone.
A Mini Stroll along Lake Washington
We achieved this half-hour family session within one spot just a few feet from their parked car. I drive past this park almost every day on my way home, and it’s always so pretty and fairly empty of crowds. On a clear day, you can see views of Mount Rainier and, of course, Lake Washington. A touch of nature for your outdoor family photos always sets the tone for a relaxing and laid-back family photoshoot.
We can do a lot in under an hour
Half sessions like this are great for smaller kids with short attention spans or for parents who prefer a shorter time slot. My mini sessions run 15 minutes and are perfect for studio portraits capturing that picture perfect holiday card for family. I like to call these not-so-mini family sessions “half the time.” We set the locations in various spots in the heart of Seattle and limit them to 30 minutes. We work semi-quickly, but the pace is still relaxed enough to achieve at least 20 images—just enough for a photo album or a gallery wall arrangement in your home.
