One of the coolest things about living in Seattle is being able to visit the islands that surround the city. When I first moved here from Southern California, I thought it was such a novelty to be able to hop on a ferry boat and escape the city noise. The slower pace of island time has always been appealing to me, plus it’s the perfect setting for a hometown family session.
I recently had the best time spending an afternoon with a fellow photographer in Kingston, WA. We decided to set up a family photos and capture them at some of their favorite spots on the island. Alyssa and Dustin informed me that this was going to be their last year living in this coastal Washington town. We obviously had to hold their family session in spots that have meant so much to them over the years.
Take The Ferry
Visiting the town of Kingston, Washington is a short ferry ride from the north end of Seattle. It features the cutest small town shops, a serene beach, and yummy locally eateries. We decided it would be fun to hold their family photos at one of their favorite spots to grab a family dinner. Most of the shops and eateries here are within a short walking distance which makes it perfect for small children. There’s a beautiful beach which is about a two minute walk away down an easily accessible boardwalk from the Kingston ferry dock.
Casual And Easy
I’m so grateful to this family for trusting me with their family photos. Collaborating with your photographer prior to your photo session time is so important. We want to be able to capture the most authentic part of your family vibe. Focusing on your loved ones and not my camera is always highly recommended when taking family photos. There is nothing like being fully present with your kids and your loved ones.
A quick bite at the pizza restaurant before finishing up their photos at the beach proved to be the perfect way to begin their family photoshoot. Incorporating an easy and casual activity like this really helps to bring out your family dynamic that creates real memories.
