One of my biggest core memories as a kid was going to Disneyland, the sounds of Main Street, seeing characters walk around greeting guests, and the iconic Monorail gliding by in the background. As a mom myself, and now as a Disneyland family photographer, I know that every time we visit the park, there’s a part of me wishing I had my own personal photographer along for the day.
The truth is, Disneyland is one of the most magical backdrops for family photos. It’s colorful, iconic, and full of moments that pass by in a blink. As a Disneyland family photographer, I’ve had the joy of capturing so many of those moments, and I want to help your family come home with photos you’ll actually want to frame. Here are my top tips.

Timing and crowds
Book your session during the first one to two hours the park opens. The light is softer, the crowds are thin, and kids are still fresh and excited, not yet tired or overstimulated. Try to avoid holidays, spring break, and summer weekends if you can. Long wait times don’t just eat into your day; they affect the relaxed, spontaneous energy that makes candid photos feel real. Weekdays in January, February, and September tend to be the sweet spot for both availability and atmosphere.
What outfits to wear
Coordinate your colors rather than matching exactly. Remember, the park itself is your backdrop, it’s colorful and busy everywhere you look, so keeping outfits simple helps your family stand out beautifully. If you’d like some inspiration, I’m happy to send over outfit ideas!
Dress up for the session, then change into comfortable park clothes afterward so you can truly enjoy the rest of your day. Disneyland has lockers available both inside and outside the park near the ticket booths, which makes this really easy. As for logos and busy patterns, I’d steer clear, but do wear your Mickey ears and Disney gear. It’s all part of the story, the magic, and the fun of being there.

What to expect from a lifestyle family session
Unlike traditional posed portraits (though don’t worry, we’ll get those too), a lifestyle session is more like having a friend follow your family around with a camera. Real giggles, real hugs, real playful moments. It’s you, on your best day.
You don’t need to look at the camera for every shot, and there are no forced smiles. Think of it as a casual family hang around the park, I’ll guide you toward good light and natural positioning, then step back and let the magic happen. Sessions are one hour, and we’ll move through two to three spot: Main Street, the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle, and if time allows, into Fantasyland, so your gallery has variety and the excitement stays high throughout.
If you’re planning a trip with your family, I would love to be your Disneyland family photographer for the day. Come home with family pictures you will love and then enjoy the rest of the day at the park. Reach out if you want to bring home some magic!
