What if our schedule doesn’t line up with golden hour? | Costa Mesa family photos

Featured

Scheduling a photoshoot around your baby’s schedule doesn’t have to feel stressful. Most of the families I photograph in Costa Mesa have at least one little one under a year old. The question I hear most is: what if golden hour doesn’t work for our schedule?

You’re a new parent and you just managed to get the sleep schedule figured out. The last thing you need is a photoshoot throwing it off. For those living in or near the city of Costa Mesa, I’m happy to schedule sessions earlier in the day for families who don’t want to worry about missing bedtime routines.

How this session came together

For this family of three, we began their session in the late afternoon and took some breaks in the shade. Then, we waited until the light softened to finish with golden hour portraits. Their baby wasn’t walking yet, so I offered to bring a blanket to give the parents a break from holding. It was an easy way to create intimate family photos and add variety to their gallery. Also, it gave their baby a sweet sensory moment; safely nestled between mom and dad. In the surrounding Costa Mesa area, I can suggest some locations that will feel easy for your family.

Golden hour is beautiful, but it’s not the only option if that timing doesn’t feel realistic for your family right now. A photographer who can work with all types of lighting can still give you something beautiful. Whatever time works best for you is possible. If you’re a family in Costa Mesa or the surrounding Orange County, Newport Beach area and golden hour doesn’t work for your schedule right now, I’d love to work with you.
