Capturing those first few weeks or months at home with a newborn baby in familiar surroundings with a newborn photo session. These are the moments that you’re going to want to remember. Unlike studio sessions, at-home sessions offer a more personal and intimate experience. They allow your baby and family to remain in a familiar setting, surrounded by their own things, and enable parents to feel more at ease and less stressed about the logistics of getting everyone out of the house. I often get asked by parents when is the right time to schedule a newborn session – this is completely up to you, but here are some things to think about especially if you’re a first time parent.
If you’re looking to document the size of your baby and remember a specific time in your family life at home, then by all means schedule your newborn at home session when you feel ready and presentable for a photo session. This particular newborn family session was scheduled around the time when their baby was 10 weeks old.
If you’re hoping to capture more of your baby’s personality, then I suggest waiting when your baby is anywhere from 7-10 months old. This is generally the time right before toddler stage begins when a baby is animated, giggly, and laughing. They are so cute at this age and it’s a joy to capture them at this adorable stage with their family. This particular newborn session was photographed in late February. The Winter light in Seattle can be very moody, but as long as you have some open window space, we can achieve a soft diffused light look for your baby photos.
